Trojans Sweep Alabama State

TROY, Alabama- The Trojans improved to 8-15 overall with a 3-0 non-conference win over Alabama State (16-9, 9-0 SWAC) Tuesday night at the Trojan Arena.

Troy got off to a hot start with a 25-15 win in set one. Alabama State tied the set at 7-7, but the Trojans pulled away with the lead and didn't look back. The Trojans posted a staggering .520 hitting percentage while holding the Lady Hornets to just a .077 percentage.

Troy went on a three-point run to open the second set and took an early 10-5 lead. The Hornets answered back with a five-point run to tie things up at 10-10, but Troy's offense continued to look strong as the Trojans walked away with a 25-19 win to take a 2-0 match lead.

Alabama State rallied back in the third set until the Trojans snuck back in to tie the match. A five-point run from Troy gave the Trojans the 15-10 lead and the momentum to cap the match. Savannah Moore put the match on ice finding the floor to take the 25-21 win.

Sophomore Jenni Young led the squad with eight kills, but Moore, Logan Page and Cheyenne Hayes were right behind her with seven kills each.

NOTEWORTHY
Trojans recorded six aces tonight compared to Alabama State's one. Hayes, Kiara Barret and SaraGrace Wilson each posted two service aces.
Bethany Cullity recorded a team-high .444 attack percentage with five kills and only one error in nine attempts.
Setters continues to solidify the team posting 38 assists compared the Alabama State's 27.
Belle Waldrop continues to lead the team with 204 kills (2.04 kills/set)

QUOTABLE
"We played really balanced tonight," head coach Josh Lauer said. "It was probably our most balanced offensive effort of the season. Alabama state is a well-coached team and they are playing really good volleyball. They are probably going to play in the NCAA Tournament. Our girls came out and played very consistently."

Troy will get back into conference play as it hosts Arkansas State and Little Rock on Friday an Saturday at the Trojan Arena. Both matches are slated for 6:30 p.m., and will be broadcast on ESPN 3.
