Georgia State hands Tulane first loss, 70-59
ATLANTA -- Malik Benlevi and Jordan Session posted double-doubles and Georgia State handed Tulane its first loss, 70-59, on Sunday.
Benlevi made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points with 10 rebounds while Session added 15 points and 10 boards. D'Marcus Simonds scored 16 points and Kane Williams 12 for the Panthers (4-2).
Tulane's Melvin Frazier, who came in shooting 72 percent and averaging 22 points per game, finished with 11 on 4-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds. Samir Sehic led the Green Wave (5-1) with 20 points and eight rebounds with Cameron Reynolds grabbing 10 boards. Tulane shot just 31 percent and was only 3 of 21 from 3-point range. The Green Wave had four more rebounds but committed 17 turnovers.
Georgia State led 28-25 and outscored Tulane 24-8 over the first 8 1/2 minutes of the second half to go up 19 with the lead remaining in double figures.
Little Rock tops Norfolk State 70-55 for first win of season
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Wadly Mompremier totaled nine points, five rebounds and four blocked shots to help guide Little Rock to its first win of the season, 70-55 over Norfolk State on Sunday.
The Trojans (1-5) won despite no players scoring in double figures. Andre Jones, Jaizec Lottie and Camron Reedus all joined Mompremier with nine points.
Little Rock knocked down 53.1 percent (26 of 49) of its shots, including 6 of 15 (40 percent) from 3-point range.
Steven Whitley paced the Spartans with 16 points and seven rebounds, but he also had six of Norfolk's 21 turnovers. The Spartans took 13 more shots from the floor, but shot just 29 percent (18 of 62).
Norfolk State (0-6) led 4-1 on a pair of Preston Bungei baskets, but that was it. Little Rock pushed its lead to 20 at 37-17 on a Damir Hadzic 3-pointer with 2:23 left in the first half and Norfolk never got closer than the final score after the break.
Sikes trey lifts South Alabama past New Orleans, 55-52
MOBILE, Ala. -- Rodrick Sikes hit a 3-point jumper with 20 seconds left to give South Alabama a 55-52 win over New Orleans for the 11th straight time Sunday afternoon.
Sikes hit a trey to give the Jaguars a 51-50 lead with 2:02 left, but Bryson Robinson dunked with :56 left to put the Privateers in front, 52-51.
The Jaguars' Herb McGee missed a field goal from deep and Josh Ajayi missed a put-back attempt. New Orleans' Troy Green missed a free throw that would have padded the lead.
South Alabama (4-3) came into the game looking to rebound from an 81-77 loss to Stetson in overtime Wednesday. Before losing 11 straight meetings, New Orleans (1-4) had won eight of nine games against the Jaguars, including two in overtime.
Sikes finished with 15 points and Ajayi added 13 for South Alabama.
Tavin Thibodeaux had 14 points to lead New Orleans.
