ULM blows out Millsaps 97-44
MONROE, La. -- Travis Munnings had a perfect shooting night and scored 17 points and Michael Ertel added 14 and ULM beat Division III Millsaps College 97-44 on Monday night.
Munnings made all seven of his field-goal attempts and all three free-throw attempts. Sam McDaniel added 13 points and missed only one of his six shots and Roderick Taylor was 4-of-5 shooting for 10 points.
The Warhawks broke it open with a 20-0 run for a 32-9 lead with McDaniel and Taylor scoring 12 of the points. ULM(5-5) shot 39 of 67 from the field (58 percent) and had a 41-25 rebounding advantage.
ULM led 59-20 at halftime.
Reserves Matt Owens and She'Chem Grant led the Majors with eight points apiece. Millsaps' reserves outscored its starters 26-18 and made 11 of the team's 16 field goals.
Little Rock routs University of the Ozarks 94-49
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Anthony Black scored a career-high 19 points with five 3-pointers, Ryan Pippins and Ben Marcus set career highs with 14 points apiece, and Little Rock routed Division III University of the Ozarks 94-49 Monday night to end a four-game skid.
Oliver Black grabbed 11 rebounds for the Trojans (3-9), who outrebounded the Eagles 29-18, outscored them 46-10 in the paint and scored 34 points off 19 turnovers.
All 12 Trojans who suited up scored and Oliver Black's eight first-half rebounds were more than all of the Eagles' six.
Pippins' layup capped Little Rock's opening 22-9 run and the Trojans finished with a 13-0 run for a 45-25 halftime lead after shooting 54.1 percent from the floor and outrebounding the Eagles 25-6.
Little Rock scored its first three-straight 3s of the season (Pippins 2, Anthony Black 1) and Little Rock led 58-30 early in the second half for its largest lead of the season.
Dylan Gray led the Eagles (3-6) with 18.
Foster scores 32, No. 25 Creighton gets past UT Arlington
OMAHA, Neb. -- Marcus Foster and No. 25 Creighton left no doubt with UT Arlington coach Scott Cross about why the Bluejays rank among the nation's scoring leaders.
Foster helped Creighton lead by 25 points in the first half, and the Mavericks never fully recovered in the Bluejays' 90-81 victory Monday night.
"The speed that they play in is absolutely amazing," Cross said. "The way they pass the ball, the way they run in transition ... I don't think I've ever played a team that's better in transition than them."
Foster scored 22 of his season-high 32 points in the first half as Creighton rolled to its fourth straight win.
Creighton (9-2) matched its season scoring average of 90.2 points per game, which was tied for eighth nationally going into Monday and tops among Big East teams. The Bluejays shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, including 8 of 17 from 3-point range.
Creighton opened an 11-4 lead as Foster scored in the low post, pulled up for a jumper in the lane and buried a 3-point shot. UTA (8-4) took its first and only edge at 13-11 on Johnny Hamilton's basket with 14:10 left in the half, but that quickly disappeared.
Khyri Thomas, Ronnie Harrell, Ty-Shon Alexander, Foster and Mitch Ballock all made 3-point shots over a six-minute burst that gave Creighton a 31-18 lead, and Harrell also finished off a three-point play during that stretch.
The 22 first-half points by Foster were the most by a Bluejay since Doug McDermott had 27 before the break in a 2014 Big East Tournament game against DePaul. The repertoire of shots to get there was impressive, too.
"I got some pull-ups, got to the cup tonight, and then hit some 3s," Foster said. "I got to get that going, too, and not just settling for my 3s, to keep the defense off balance a little bit."
Thomas added 16 points, five assists and five rebounds.
Kevin Hervey led UT Arlington with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Wake Forest win streak at 6 after 84-80 Coastal Carolina win
CONWAY, S.C. -- Wake Forest coach Danny Manning isn't going to say he is sorry for a win against anybody after starting 1-4.
The Demon Deacons (7-4) overcame a slow start, riding defense instead of the hot shooting that has been the hallmark of their now six-game winning streak to beat Coastal Carolina 84-80 on Monday night.
"You don't apologize for winning a game, especially on the road," Manning said.
Wake Forest was on the cusp of losing to a third team with an RPI under 200 (Liberty and Drake were the others) as the fans in Coastal Carolina's cozy HTC Center were roaring after the Chanticleers (6-6) took a 72-69 lead at the end of a 8-0 run with 2:38 to go.
Brandon Childress made a pair of free throws for Wake Forest, then Bryant Crawford got a steal near midcourt. His layup was blocked, but Mitchell Wilbekin had rushed down and got the putback with 2:07 to go to give the Demon Deacons a lead they would not give up.
On the next possession, Doral Moore blocked two shots. Crawford was then fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all his free throws to put Wake Forest up 76-72 with 1:25 to go. Moore had a career-best five blocks.
Wake Forest hit 10 of 11 free throws in the final 2:25 of the game, including four by Keyshawn Woods that kept the Demon Deacons more than a possession ahead in the final minute.
"When we were 1-4 I was all about finding ways for us to get better," Manning said.
Crawford led Wake Forest with 22 points, while Moore added 11 points and 10 rebounds
Zac Culbertson led the Chanticleers with 21 points. Jaylen Shaw had 12 points and 10 assists.
