White's Goal Gives CCU OT Win
Conway - Senior Wes White took a loose ball and found the back of the net in the 92nd minute to give the Chanticleers a 2-1 overtime win over College of Charleston.
White went from being the goat to the hero after having his penalty kick blocked in the final minutes of the first half and missing an open goal late in the match which would have given the Chants a lead.
He never gave up in the overtime on a loose ball and was able to beat the Cougars defense to the ball from inside the box and was able to end the match in overtime.
Neither team scored in the first 80 minutes of the match, but CCU took a lead in the 81st minute when Frantzdy Pierrot took a pass from White down the middle of the field for the first goal of the game.
Charleston scrambled back and put the pressure on the CCU defense and it paid off as Leland Archer evened the score at one on an unassisted goal in the 85th minute.
Neither team could muster much of anything else until the overtime period when CCU took control of the ball with White's goal being the only shot of the extra period.
CCU finished the game out shooting Charleston 12-9 with shots on goal going 5-3 CCU's way. Braulio Linares-Ortiz was in goal for the Chants and finished with two saves.
CCU will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 24 when they host Virginia Commonwealth at 6 p.m.
