CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women;s soccer team dropped their home opener to in-state opponent College of Charleston 1-0. With the loss, the Chants fall to 1-1-1 on the season while the Cougars improved to 2-1.
Early in the first half Coastal applied pressure but was unable to find the back of the net. Loranna Austin fired a strike on goal in the first half forcing the CofC goalie to make a diving save. The Cougars outshot the Chants 4-3 in the first half after taking control of the pressure. College of Charleston tried to take the lead when Rylee Atteberry had to punch a shot over the crossbar to keep it even at zero.
At 48:19, the Cougars Sara Deutsch found the back of the net off the feed from Maddy Brill-Edwards for the eventual game winning goal and 1-to-nil lead. The Chanticleers out shot CofC 6-5 in the second half to even total shot at nine each.
Coastal Carolina will return to action Sunday, Aug 26 as they will travel to Williamsburg, Va to take on William & Mary to close out the month of August. The kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
