South Alabama 1, Georgia State 0
University of South Alabama freshman Brenna McPartlan scored early in the second half to give the Jaguars the only goal they would need in a 1-0 victory over Georgia State Sunday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex.
The Jags snap a five-game losing streak and win their Sun Belt Conference opener to improve to 3-5 and 1-0. The Panthers drop to 2-7-1, 0-2.
North Alabama 2, Troy 0
Troy fell in its final non-conference game of the season, 2-0, to North Alabama at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex on Sunday.
After a rather uneventful first half, North Alabama spiced things up with a goal in the 29thminute. The Lions (6-4-0) took a corner that was cleared by the Trojan defense, but not quite out of danger. Kylie Huey collected the loose ball and sent a lob into the box that found the head of Margarida Sousa, who scored her third goal of the season.
