DURHAM, N.C. – In the first match of the Duke Invitational, the Coastal Carolina volleyball team got off to a fast start in set one, but East Tennessee State rallied to win the final three sets and the match (25-15, 17-25, 26-28, 18-25).

RALEIGH, N.C. – Appalachian State volleyball came up on the short end of a tight five set contest, falling to Utah Valley 25-19, 23-25, 27-29, 25-23, 15-11 on Friday afternoon on the first day of the N.C. State/Campbell Invitational. Melissa McMath paced the Mountaineers (4-3) with a season-best 25 kills on a .455 hitting mark. It marks just the second time in her career that she has recorded 20 or more kills in a match, posting a career-best 28 last season versus Georgia Southern.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – It was a day of proven progress for the ULM volleyball team, as they nearly defeated Memphis in a five-set thriller, and swept North Alabama on day one (Sept.7) of the Tiger Invitational.

FORT WORTH, Texas – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball came away with a split on Day 1 of the TCU Fight in the Fort, defeating Montana State with a dominant finish in the fifth set and narrowly missing on extending host-TCU to five sets. Louisiana (7-3) was able to put away Montana State by posting 12 kills on a sparkling .524 hitting percentage in the decisive frame. The Ragin' Cajuns were in control throughout the 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 15-8) victory, and were one point away from forcing extra points in the third set for an opportunity to sweep the Bobcats (3-5). Powered by 19 kills in the second set of the nightcap, Louisiana was able to draw even with TCU (6-3). The Horned Frogs ability to overcome a 22-14 deficit in the fourth set ended the match at 3-1 (25-13, 26-28, 25-18, 25-23) in the hosts favor.

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team swept a pair of matches to open the Jaguar Invitational at Jag Gym on Friday. USA (3-5) defeated Southeastern Louisiana in straight sets (25-14, 25-14, 25-19) in its opening match of the tournament, followed by a win in straight sets over Mississippi State (25-19, 25-19, 25-22) Friday evening.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Arkansas State volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss Thursday night with a pair of wins over Southeast Missouri 3-2 (25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12) and Providence 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) in the second day of competition Friday at the Kangaroo Classic being held at the Swinney Recreation Center on the campus of UMKC in Kansas City, Mo.

CONWAY, Ark. – Little Rock returned to its winning ways Friday afternoon, making quick work of in-state rival Arkansas-Pine Bluff 25-12, 25-10, 25-10 at the UCA Invitational. The win snaps Little Rock's stretch of three tough losses as the Trojans improve to 6-3 on the season.

CLEMSON, S.C. – Troy and defending Big Sky champion North Dakota battled in a five-set nail-biter, but the Fighting Hawks came out on top with a 3-2 victory in the first match of the Big Orange Bash at the Jervey Athleltic Center.

ATLANTA – Georgia State volleyball fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-12) in the home opener to Sam Houston State on Friday night. Sydney Stroud and Dzemila Hadzic each had nine kills for GSU in the effort. The Panthers trailed 7-2 early, but would rally with a 4-0 run would close the gap to 11-9. Sam Houston State would find separation before two blocks by Shae Chapman closed the gap to 23-21. The Bearkats would take the final three points and a 25-21 set win.

DURHAM, N.C. – In their second match of the day on Friday at the Duke Invitational, Coastal Carolina volleyball dropped straight sets to the host Duke Blue Devils (23-25, 17-25, 22-25). It was the Blue Devil block that was the difference in the match as they totaled 15.5 blocks on the night.

SAN ANTONIO - A double-digit kill performance by Madison Hilllifted UT Arlington to its second sweep in a row, topping Incarnate Word 3-0 on Friday night at the McDermott Center. UTA, winners of four matches in a row, pushed above .500 in the win column in topping the Southland Conference foe.

?WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Shelby Fulmer tallied 17 kills, and Emily Weigand posted 38 assists, 10 digs and five aces to lead Akron to a 3-2 volleyball win over Georgia Southern in the Wake Forest Invitational at Reynolds Gym Friday night.
