No. 7 ULM Blows Past No. 6 Coastal Carolina to Advance to Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS – No. 7 ULM used a big second half to easily defeat No. 7 Coastal Carolina, 80-50, in the second round of the 2019 Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by First Bank and Trust on Thursday.

The Warhawks (18-14, 9-9 Sun Belt) move on to face No. 3 Georgia Southern (20-11, 12-6) in the second of two quarterfinal games on Friday at Lakefront Arena. 

Michael Ertel had 20 points, hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers, with seven assists and six rebounds to lead the way for ULM. Travis Munnings had 17 points and seven rebounds . Daishon Smith added 13 points, while JD Williams had six rebounds and three blocks.

The Chanticleers' 29.5 field goal percentage represented the worst mark by a ULM opponent this season. Coastal Carolina scored 19 second-half points, a season low for the team.

Tommy Burton had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Chanticleers (15-16, 9-9). Tyrell Gumbs-Frater added 12 points. Zac Cuthbertson had 11 rebounds.
