Coastal Carolina 8, UT Arlington 6 (11)
Arlington, Texas – Coastal Carolina got two home runs from senior Mike Koenig, 5.2 strong innings out of the bullpen from senior Matt Eardensohn and scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning as the Chanticleers defeated the UT Arlington Mavericks 8-6 in extra innings on Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.
The Chants move to 3-1-1 in extra-inning games on the season with the 11-inning win and improve to 28-20-1 overall and 13-11 in Sun Belt play. The Mavericks fall to 29-21 overall and 15-10 in league play with the series-opening loss.
South Alabama 4, Appalachian State 1
BOONE, N.C. – Jaguar right-hander Drake Nightengale turned in a quality start to lead the University of South Alabama baseball team to a 4-1 win over Appalachian State in Friday's series opener at Beaver Field.
Nightengale (5-2) allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts against one walk in six innings pitched to earn his fifth win of the season.
Troy 15, ULM 4
TROY, Alabama – Drew Frederic drove in four runs as Troy pounded on 19 hits in a 15-4 thumping of ULM to open a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on Friday at Riddle-Pace Field.
The Trojans (26-24, 13-12 SBC) recorded nine extra base hits, including six doubles and scored in all but three innings to take the first game of the crucial conference series. Frederic led the charge going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a triple.
Louisiana 2, Georgia State 0
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Baseball used two unconventional runs and rode another stellar effort from its pitching staff to claim victory in the series opener against Georgia State, taking down the Panthers, 2-0, at Russo Park on Friday night.
Riding the arms of pitchers Jack Burk and Austin Perrin, the Ragin' Cajuns (23-28, 11-14) saw the duo strike out 11 batters with just one walk to secure a second consecutive shutout victory and the third on the year.
Little Rock 4, Texas State 3 (10)
LITTLE ROCK- For the second consecutive game, the Trojans walked it off in the bottom of the tenth inning. This time a base hit from Eldrige Figueroa did the job as he scored Chase Coker from first base to seal the 4-3 victory over Texas State in the series opener, Friday night at Gary Hogan Field.
