STATESBORO – Georgia Southern Baseball took the series win over Arkansas State with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Friendly Confines. The Eagles took the opener 10-6 with seven unanswered over the final three trips to the plate. In game two the Eagles downed the Red Wolves 17-6 with a season-high runs scored. On Sunday the Eagles will honor five seniors before the 10 a.m. finale. First pitch on Sunday has been moved up due to storms expected later in the day.
Troy 10, ULM 4
TROY, Alabama – Troy split a doubleheader Saturday against ULM at Riddle-Pace Field winning the opener, 10-4, before falling in the nightcap, 14-6. The split pushed the series in Troy's favor, and the Trojans have now won six of their last seven Sun Belt Conference series.
Rigsby Mosley led Troy (27-25, 14-13) with four hits on the day – two in each game – with three of them going for extra bases. Mosley was part of a four-home run attack by the Trojans in game one and also added a double in each of the games. Troy's four home runs in the opener marked the third time in the last seven games that the Trojans belted at least four homers in a game.
ULM 14, Troy 6
TROY, Ala. – Blake Buckman drove in a career-high four runs and Chad Bell hit two solo home runs to lead ULM to a 14-6 victory over Troy in Game 2 as the Warhawks earned a split in Saturday's (May 11) doubleheader at Riddle-Pace Field. Troy's Rigsby Mosley provided a two-run double and two-run homer to lift the Trojans to a 10-4 win over the Warhawks in Game 1.
The Trojans won the three-game Sun Belt Conference series, 2-1.
In Game 2, ULM (23-27, 11-15 Sun Belt) took full advantage of Troy right-hander Sadler Goodwin's control issues in the top of the first. Joey Jordan opened the game with a single to center field and Trent Tingelstad turned an eight-pitch at-bat into a walk. With one out, Andrew Beesley walked to load the bases, and Ryan Humeniuk walked on four-straight pitches to pick up an RBI. Goodwin forced in two more runs by hitting Cameron Horton and Masen Prososki in consecutive at-bats. Logan Wurm followed with a two-run single up the middle to extend ULM's lead to 5-0.
South Alabama 13, Appalachian State 6
BOONE, N.C. – The University of South Alabama baseball team recorded nine extra-base hits, including four home runs, in a 13-6 win over Appalachian State in Sun Belt Conference East Division action Saturday at Beaver Field.
USA (28-22, 14-12 Sun Belt) clinched the series with the win, and extended its season-best win streak to seven games.
Little Rock 9, Texas State 5
LITTLE ROCK- The Trojans clinched a series victory over conference-leading Texas State with a 9-5 win on Saturday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. Chase Coker's seventh-inning bases-clearing triple broke the game open to propel Little Rock to their third straight win.
Little Rock improves to 24-25 (15-10 Sun Belt) while Texas State falls to 33-17 (17-9 Sun Belt).
Louisiana 16, Georgia State 6
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Baseball put up 16 runs for the third time this season and outhit Georgia State, 17-5, while Brandon Young dazzled with six shutout innings on the mound to help the Ragin' Cajuns cruise past the Panthers, 16-6, and claim the series victory on Saturday evening at Russo Park.
For just the second time this year, Louisiana (24-28, 12-14) notched double-digit runs (16), hits (17) and strikeouts (12), the first coming on May 3 at Coastal Carolina when it produced 10 runs, 11 hits and 13 strikeouts.
