CONWAY, S.C. – Trent Tingelstad drove in seven runs, three on a three-run home run, and added four hits as ULM went on to run-rule fourth-seeded UT Arlington, 18-5, in Thursday night's finale at the Sun Belt Baseball Championship at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Ty Barnes tossed all seven innings for the Warhawks and earned his fifth win in the process (5-3). He allowed only five hits and four earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.
Chad Bell was 3-for-4 for ULM with four RBIs in the game. Bell added his own three-run home run in the eight-run sixth inning. Braedon Barrett was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored four times.
With the win, the Warhawks (27-29) advance to Saturday's semifinals. It will mark the first appearance in the Sun Belt Championship semifinals since the 2012 season, a year in which they won the tournament title. The 27 wins are also the most since that same season.
Josh Minjarez led the Mavericks (32-25) with two of UTA's five hits. David Moffat got the start for the Mavericks and lasted just one inning, giving up three runs on four hits. Cesar Gomez (2-3) earned the loss for UTA.
UTA will now have to battle back from the loser's bracket as they will matchup with tournament host, Coastal Carolina, for the second time in three days on Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT. UTA won Wednesday's contest, 9-8, in 10 innings.
