CONWAY, S.C. – After being held scoreless and without a hit through the first four innings, Louisiana Baseball's offense exploded in the final five frames, posting three, three-run innings and riding stellar pitching to knock off Coastal Carolina, 10-0, in the series opener at Springs Brooks Stadium.
The win was the Ragin' Cajuns' (21-27, 9-13) first in a series opener since it took down Loyola Marymount, 5-0, on March 8 and the team's second shutout of the season, the first since that same contest.
Arkansas State 10, Appalachian State 2
Jonesboro, Ark. (5/3/19)– Tyler Duncan was just a double shy in completing the cycle as the Arkansas State baseball team defeated Appalachian State 10-2, Friday evening at Tomlinson Stadium.
Following the win, A-State improved to 24-22 overall and 11-12 in the Sun Belt while App State dropped to 20-24 overall and 11-11 in the league.
Troy 10, Georgia Southern 3
TROY, Alabama – Chase Smartt pounded out four hits – three for extra bases – and Cory Gill turned in seven solid innings on the mound as Troy defeated Georgia Southern, 10-3, Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field in a key Sun Belt East Division contest. The Troy win snapped a six-game winning streak in series openers by Georgia Southern.
Troy (24-22, 11-11 Sun Belt), which moved to within a game of first place in the division, hit five home runs and finished with 10 extra-base hits. This coming after the Trojans hit six home runs and 11 extra-base hits in a mid-week win over Alabama State on Tuesday.
South Alabama 8, Little Rock 1
MOBILE, Ala. – Jaguar right-hander Patrick McBride tossed five shutout innings to lead the University of South Alabama baseball team to an 8-1 series-opening win over Little Rock Friday at Stanky Field.
McBride (2-2) did not allow a run over five innings, and allowed five hits while tying his career high with five strikeouts against one walk to earn the win. Right-hander Noah Michael tossed four relief innings and struck out one to record his first career save.
South Alabama (23-22, 10-12 Sun Belt) will return to action Saturday when it hosts Little Rock (21-23, 13-8 Sun Belt) in game two of the three-game series at 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.
