Texas State 5, Georgia State 1
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The 30th-ranked Texas State baseball team split a twin bill on Saturday against Georgia State at Bobcat Ballpark. The Bobcats won the first game 5-2 before falling 3-1 in the second contest.
With the split, TXST is now 32-15 overall and 16-7 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Panthers are 14-33 on the season with a 5-18 mark in conference play.
Georgia State 3, Texas State 1
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS -- Rhett Harper homered and drove in two runs to back a strong pitching performance by Tyler Koch and Ryan Watson as Georgia State downed No. 30 and Sun Belt Conference leader Texas State 3-1 to split Saturday's doubleheader at Bobcat Ballpark. Texas State took Game 1, 5-1.
The Panthers (14-33, 5-18 Sun Belt) got outstanding starts from both Hunter Gaddis in Game 1 and Koch in Game 2 and an excellent relief outing from Watson, who earned his team-leading sixth victory. The GSU staff pitched a total of 17 innings on the day, with the Bobcats (32-15, 16-7) only scoring in two of them.
Louisiana 9, Coastal Carolina 7
CONWAY, S.C. – Louisiana's bats were red hot for a second consecutive contest as the Ragin' Cajuns unleashed 13 hits and nine runs off Coastal Carolina's pitching staff to take the series over the Chanticleers with a 9-7 win at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Through the first two games of the series, the Ragin' Cajuns (22-27, 10-13) have outhit the Chanticleers, 24-14, and outscored them, 19-7. Louisiana is now 16-6 when outhitting opponents this season.
Troy 4, Georgia Southern 2 - Suspended in 7th
TROY, Alabama – Game two of the Sun Belt Conference series between Troy and Georgia Southern was suspended in the seventh inning after inclement weather made its way through Pike County. The game will resume Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT) followed by game three approximately 40 minutes after its conclusion. Both of Sunday's games will be streamed live on Facebook Live (@TroyAthletics).
ULM vs. UTA - Postponed to May 5 at 1 p.m. CT
Monroe, La. - Due to overnight and early morning rainfall in Monroe, ULM's series finale with UT Arlington has been postponed to 1 p.m. Sunday at Warhawk Field, head coach Michael Federico announced on Saturday.
Arkansas State 27, Appalachian State 8
Jonesboro, Ark. (5/4/19)– The Arkansas State baseball team recorded a historic 27 runs in its 27-8 defeat over Appalachian State Saturday evening at Tomlinson Stadium.
The 27 runs recorded by the squad was the most runs scored at home since the 1964 against North Dakota. Five Red Wolves recorded three or more RBIs in Saturday’s win over the Mountaineers.
South Alabama 7, Little Rock 2
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Little Rock 7-2 Saturday at Stanky Field.
USA (24-22, 11-12 Sun Belt) broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Reid Powers and RBI singles by Santi Montiel and Michael Sandle, to clinch the three-game series and extend its home winning streak to six games.
South Alabama will return to action Sunday when it hosts Little Rock (21-24, 13-9 Sun Belt) in the series finale at 1 p.m. at Stanky Field.
