SBC Announces 2019-2020 Academic Honors

2019-20 Commissioner's List | 2019-20 Academic Honor Roll

NEW ORLEANS — Nearly 2,500 Sun Belt Conference student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s List and Academic Honor Roll for the 2019-20 school year. Those recognized include 1,378 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s List and 1,024 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll list.

The Commissioner's List honors student-athletes who maintained a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2019-20 academic year while the Academic Honor Roll honors those student-athletes who maintained a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 for the academic year.

“We celebrate these student-athletes and recognize their diligence to excel academically,” said SBC Commissioner Keith Gill. “This group represents the highest level of dedication. We’re proud of proud of them for their commitment to academics as they become experts in their field of study.” 

Arkansas State University led the way with an athletic program average GPA of 3.48. In total, the university had 228 student-athletes named as honorees (148 on the Commissioner’s List and 80 on the Academic Honor Roll). The Red Wolves’ women’s golf team recorded the highest team GPA out of the school’s 13 programs at 3.82. All 13 A-State programs earned at least a 3.0 GPA. 

App State University — the other university to record a 3.0 GPA or better for all of its programs — ranked third in the Sun Belt for athletic program average GPA with a 3.42. Georgia State University edged the Mountaineers by .02 GPA points with an average program GPA of 3.44. The two schools had over 500 honorees combined (330 for Appalachian State and 202 for Georgia State).

Across the entire Sun Belt Conference, the women’s tennis representatives compiled the highest average GPA with a 3.65. The sport had 25 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, while 62 were named to the Commissioner’s List. For the men’s sports, tennis recorded the highest average GPA at a 3.45, with Coastal Carolina University leading the way with a team GPA of 3.75.
