Viso's First Career Goal Lifts App State Past Texas State

FOLEY, Ala. -  App State graduate transfer Audrey Viso connected on her first career goal in the 53rd minute to lift the 11th-seeded Mountaineers past sixth-seeded Texas State, 2-1, on Monday in the opening game of the Sun Belt Soccer Tournament at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala. 

App State (7-10-1) advances to face third-seeded Georgia State at 11 a.m. CT Wednesday. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+. 

The Mountaineers started off the scoring in the 10th minute when sophomore Breckyn Monteith charted her ninth goal of the season to give App State the early lead. 

Texas State (7-8-2) evened up the match in the 21st minute when junior Kamaria Williams found classmate Kiara Gonzales for her fifth goal of the year. 

The Bobcats out-shot App State 17-6 in the match, but the Mountaineers made the most of their three shots on goal. 

App State’s junior goalkeeper Kerry Eagleston went the full 90 minutes, picking up the win, with seven saves. Texas State’s Beth Agee played the first 75 minutes with a save before being lifted for Katelyn Chrisman.
