FOLEY, Ala. - ULM senior Theoni Zerva’s goal in the 38th minute Monday propelled the eighth-seeded Warhawks past ninth-seeded Troy, 1-0, on the opening day of the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Tournament at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
ULM (7-11) advances to play top-seeded Arkansas State, the 2021 Sun Belt regular-season champion, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT. That match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Troy (7-10-1) out-shot the Warhawks 15-8 in the match and held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goals. Both goalkeepers played the full 90 minutes with ULM’s Hailey Hillock making eight saves and Troy’s Lindsey LaRoche snagging four.
The goal for Zerva at the 37:35 mark, which turned out to be the game-winner, was her 11th of the season and came on a penalty-kick opportunity.
