South Alabama's Webb, Troy's Martial & Marshall's Verhoff Earn Sun Belt Weekly Accolades

NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama’s La’Damian Webb, Troy’s Carlton Martial and Marshall’s Rece Verhoff set records en route to conference weekly accolades. 
 
Football Offensive Player of the Week
La’Damian Webb, South Alabama
(Jr., RB – Opelika, Ala.) 
 
Jaguars junior running back La’Damian Webb added 84 yards to his career-high set a week ago to secure his second-straight weekly honor. The Opelika, Ala., native rushed for a career-best and program-record 247 yards and four touchdowns as South Alabama secured a come-from-behind 38-31 victory over Georgia Southern. Webb tallied 179 yards in the second half, including carrying the ball on 14 of the Jaguars final 16 plays to run out the clock. Webb’s 14 touchdowns on the year—including seven over the past two weeks—top the single-season list at South Alabama. 
   
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Carlton Martial, Troy
(Sr., LB – Mobile, Ala.) 

Trojans senior linebacker Carlton Martial tallied a game-high 13 tackles in Troy’s 23-17 come-from-behind victory over Louisiana, moving into third place in the FBS record books for career tackles in the process. The Mobile, Ala., product also forced his eighth career fumble, the second-most in Troy history and fifth-most in Sun Belt lore. The Trojan defense held Louisiana to just 91 second-half yards—3.4 yards per play—as the offense scored 23 unanswered points to secure the victory. 
   
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Rece Verhoff, Marshall
(Fr., K – Columbus Grove, Ohio)  
 
Thundering Herd freshman kicker Rece Verhoff accounted for all 12 points in Marshall’s 12-0 shutout victory over Old Dominion. The Columbus Grove, Ohio product went 4-for-5 on field goal attempts, connecting from 33, 26, 30 and 23 yards out. Verhoff, whose four field goals tied the Marshall single-game high-water mark, ranks eighth in the Sun Belt averaging 6.56 points per game this season.
