NEW ORLEANS — Senior closer Tristan Stivors of Texas State was named the
2022 Stopper of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Friday. He is the first Sun Belt student-athlete to bring home the honor, recognizing the nation's top relief pitcher, since the award’s inception in 2005.
Stivors compiled the best season ever by a Bobcat closer in 2022, with a program-record and national-best 18 saves. He also boasted a 7-1 record and a 2.21 ERA, surrendering just 18 runs—15 earned—across 32 appearances on the year.
The senior right-handed pitcher finished the season with 86 strikeouts. He recorded multiple strikeouts in 23-of-32 outings and held opposing hitters to a .210 batting average.
The All-Sun Belt First Team honoree made a pair of appearances for Sun Belt regular-season champion Texas State at the Stanford Regional—guiding the program to its first-ever regional final.
The Castroville, Texas, native was also Texas State’s first-ever First Team All-America pick following the 2022 campaign.
