Kentucky’s Bjorgolfsson and Marshall’s Holmes Named Sun Belt Men’s Soccer Players of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Kentucky’s Eythor Bjorgolfsson and Marshall’s Ryan Holmes each turned in standout performances to lead their teams this past weekend. They have earned recognition as Sun Belt Men’s Soccer Players of the Week. 
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Eythor Bjorgolfsson, Kentucky

Eythor Bjorgolfsson was a force for Kentucky this past week against both No. 10 Louisville and No. 20 Tulsa. The Jessheim, Norway, native, tallied one goal and five shots to push the offensive efforts for the Wildcats. Bjorgolfsson sits sixth in the conference in shots (12), and fifth with seven shots on goal on the year. 
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Holmes, Marshall

Ryan Holmes played a big role in the Herd going 2-0 last week with a 3-1 win at Cleveland State on Wednesday and a dominant 7-1 victory over Pacific on Sunday, in which he scored the first two goals of his career. At Cleveland State, the freshman defender played a full 90 minutes on a backline that gave just eight shots. On Sunday against Pacific, the Ona, West Virginia, native, totaled 72 minutes in a contest that saw the Tigers score one goal on five shots, with only two coming on target.
