NEW ORLEANS – After eclipsing the 1,000 career points threshold, Arkansas State junior guard Freddy Hicks was named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Hicks averaged 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in a 1-1 week for the Red Wolves. The Searcy, Ark., native tallied 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 100-86 win over Alcorn State and led the team with 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a hard-fought 88-74 loss to Iowa.
The junior has scored in double-figures in four-straight games to open the season, with a pair of 20-point performances. He shot 46.2 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from distance this week. His 20-point, eight-board, seven-dish effort was the first by a Red Wolves player since 2015.
