NEW ORLEANS — South Alabama scored the most points in its FBS era en route to the first bowl victory in program history—59-10 over Eastern Michigan in the 68 Ventures Bowl.
The Jaguars, who were one of an FBS-leading 12 Sun Belt football programs to compete in Bowl Season, improved to 1-3 in four all-time bowl appearances.
Freshman quarterback Gio Lopez completed 14-of-19 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns, while amassing a game-high 88 rushing yards and a touchdown in the ground game.
Sophomore wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett caught eight passes for a game-high 127 yards and two touchdowns and senior tight end DJ Thomas-Jones also hauled in two touchdown receptions for the Jaguars. Pritchett also led the way with 164 all-purpose yards, while sophomore running back Braylon McReynolds (111 yards) and junior running back Kentrel Bullock (110 yards) joined him in accumulating over 100 all-purpose yards in the blowout win.
Jaguars senior quarterback Desmond Trotter connected on 9-of-17 passes for 115 yards and a score.
Defensively, South Alabama forced three turnovers and held Eastern Michigan to just 150 total yards—with 70 coming on the 13-play final drive late in the fourth quarter. Redshirt junior safety Jaden Voisin posted a team-high five tackles. Junior cornerback Marquise Robinson and senior safety Jalen Jordan recorded interceptions.
The Jaguars held the Eagles without a touchdown until 58 seconds remained in the contest.
With the win, South Alabama improves to 7-6 on the season.
