NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference will utilize TrackMan technology for conference baseball games during the 2023 season to assist with umpire training and evaluation.
TrackMan uses patented Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT) to record and deliver data from tracking systems installed in baseball stadiums. The Trackman stadium system is used by 10 Sun Belt schools and more than 170 colleges around the country.
The Sun Belt will use data delivered by TrackMan to monitor each pitch of every game for accuracy by Sun Belt umpires and will use the resulting information to train, evaluate and improve performance.
“As one of the nation’s premier baseball leagues, the Sun Belt is committed to investing in technology to improve the game,” said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill. “This began with the adoption of instant replay in both baseball and softball for the 2023 season and continues with this innovative partnership with TrackMan to provide critical evaluation data.”
TrackMan is used by all 30 Major League Baseball teams, top amateur organizations, prominent collegiate summer leagues and is embedded in more than 500 stadiums around the world.
“TrackMan has been providing several Sun Belt Conference institutions with the most robust in-game tracking solution to help with player development, scouting and recruiting. We are extremely excited to work directly with the SBC and provide in-game data to help train and evaluate their umpires,” said TrackMan NCAA Account Manager James Snikeris. “The SBC is a prominent conference in collegiate athletics and this partnership illustrates their commitment to improve officiating that will benefit the student athletes, coaches and fans.”
The technology will be used for all conference baseball games during the 2023 campaign.
