Louisiana Men’s Basketball Bound For NCAA Tournament As No. 13 Seed; Southern Miss Set For NIT

Louisiana, the 2023 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Tournament Champion, will begin its postseason journey on Thursday as the No. 13 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. 

Louisiana’s No. 13 seed marks the highest seed for a Sun Belt Conference team in the NCAA Tournament since 2016. 

The Ragin’ Cajuns will face fourth-seeded Tennessee in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday. Tip-off is 8:40 p.m. CT on CBS. 

Louisiana is making its 11th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament (1972, 1973, 1982, 1983, 1992, 1994, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2014, 2023) and second under head coach Bob Marlin. 

Louisiana is 26-7 overall on the season, finishing second in the Sun Belt Conference regular season with a 13-5 league mark. The Ragin’ Cajuns won the 2023 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Championship, marking their fifth Sun Belt Tournament crown and first since 2014. Louisiana played in the finals of the Sun Belt Tournament for the second consecutive season. 

Louisiana is led by 2023 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Championship Most Outstanding Performer Jordan Brown, a junior forward. Brown, also a First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, who ranks top-40 in the nation in scoring at 19.4 points per game, while also contributing 8.7 rebounds per game. Brown is a finalist for the Lou Henson Award. 

The Ragin’ Cajuns also placed senior guard Greg Williams, Jr., on the All-Sun Belt Second Team. Williams averages 13.1 points per game and has a squad-best 37 steals on the year. Sophomore guard Themus Fulks is ninth nationally in total assists with 194 on the year. 

Sun Belt Conference regular-season champion Southern Miss will represent the Sun Belt in the National Invitation Tournament as the league's automatic qualifier. The Golden Eagles will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB at 6:30 p.m. CT Tuesday on ESPN+.
