NEW ORLEANS — Following the conclusion of the regular season Saturday evening, the Sun Belt Conference announced the seeds and matchups for the 2023 Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship presented by Troy University.
The 10-team tournament will be held at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala., from Tuesday, May 23, to Sunday, May 28.
Coastal Carolina (37-17, 23-7 SBC) won all 10 of its conference series en route to the Sun Belt regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament. The Chanticleers will be looking for their third Sun Belt tournament championship (2018, 2019) since joining the league ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.
No. 2 seed Southern Miss, No. 3 seed Troy, No. 4 seed Louisiana, No. 5 seed Texas State and No. 6 seed App State also earned byes into the eight-team double-elimination portion of the tournament bracket.
A pair of single-elimination games between No. 10 seed Old Dominion and No. 7 seed James Madison and No. 9 seed Georgia Southern and No. 8 seed Georgia State will open tournament play on Tuesday, May 23.
Every tournament game will be nationally broadcast on ESPN+, concluding with the championship game at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, May 28.

The Sun Belt currently boasts the No. 5 conference RPI in the nation—trailing only the SEC, ACC, Big 12 and Pac-12.
Louisiana is the reigning Sun Belt tournament champion and owns five all-time tournament crowns—the most among this year’s 10-team field.
Four Sun Belt teams currently sit among the Top 55 of the RPI—Coastal Carolina (13 RPI), Southern Miss (28 RPI), Troy (35 RPI) and Texas State (53 RPI)—while the entire 10-team field is listed among the Top 100—Louisiana (67 RPI), Old Dominion (85 RPI), Georgia Southern (91 RPI), Georgia State (95 RPI), App State (97 RPI) and James Madison (99 RPI).
Historically a multi-bid conference, the Sun Belt sent multiple teams to the postseason for 23-straight years from 1989-2011, garnering 60 postseason berths over the stretch. Over the past 10 postseasons—spanning 11 years due to the COVID-19 cancellation in 2020—the Sun Belt has earned 18 NCAA berths, including a conference-best four a season ago.
