NEW ORLEANS — Texas State will open the GJ Kinne era on Saturday, Sept. 2, when it visits in-state foe Baylor at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT for its season-opener on ESPN+.
Three of the past four meetings between the Bobcats and the Bears have been decided by nine-or-fewer points.
Texas State’s non-conference slate also features a trip to in-state foe UTSA (Sept. 9) and home dates with Jackson State (Sept. 16) and Nevada (Sept. 23). Along with annual dates against its West Division foes, the Bobcats’ conference schedule includes a home game against Georgia Southern (Nov. 4) and a road contest at Coastal Carolina (Nov. 11) from the East Division.
Texas State was picked to finish fifth in the West Division in last month’s
2023 Sun Belt Conference Football Preseason Coaches Poll.
First-year head coach GJ Kinne will lead a team that
returns three All-Sun Belt picks from 2022 and
had one player named to the 2023 Preseason All-Sun Belt teams.
The Bobcats were 4-8 a year ago, with a 2-6 mark in conference play. The program’s first-ever victory over App State—36-24 on Oct. 8—highlighted the season and gave Texas State its first 3-0 start at home since 2011.
