NEW ORLEANS – Following a second-straight week with a Sun Belt victory over an autonomy five opponent, Georgia Southern’s Davis Brin, Old Dominion’s Jason Henderson and James Madison’s Aiden Fisher claimed the conference’s weekly honors.
Football Offensive Player of the Week
Davis Brin, Georgia Southern
(6th Yr., QB – Boerne, Texas)
Eagles sixth-year quarterback Davis Brin completed 38-of-47 passes to lead Georgia Southern to a 49-35 non-conference win over UAB. The Boerne, Texas, native threw for 318 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while spreading the ball to eight different receivers. Brin also ran for 18 yards and a score in the ground game. His 38 completions are the second-most by a quarterback in Clay Helton’s head coaching career (Kedon Slovis of USC, 40 vs. Arizona State in 2020) and are tied for the second-most in Georgia Southern program history (Lee Chappel of Georgia Southern, 39 vs. Furman in 2008).
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Jason Henderson, Old Dominion

Monarchs junior linebacker Jason Henderson tallied a game-high 17 tackles to propel Old Dominion to a 38-31 victory in the Sun Belt conference opener against Louisiana. The Dingmans Ferry, Pa., product also recorded a game-high 2.5 tackles for loss for the Monarchs. Henderson—the 2022 NCAA leader in tackles and the 2023 Sun Belt Preseason Defensive Player of the Year—has recorded double-digit tackles in 17 games during his collegiate career, including 13-of-14 games since the start of the 2022 campaign.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Aiden Fisher, James Madison
(So., LB – Fredericksburg, Va.)
Dukes sophomore linebacker Aiden Fisher contributed a momentum-shifting play on special teams—blocking a first quarter punt in the end zone—in James Madison’s 36-35 win over in-state foe Virginia. The Fredericksburg, Va., native’s blocked punt was recovered by D’Angelo Ponds for a touchdown to give the Dukes a 14-0 lead. Fisher also stepped into a leading role on defense, posting a team-high and career-best nine tackles. The Dukes win over Virginia was the Sun Belt’s second over an autonomy five opponent this season and the 17th over the past eight campaigns—with James Madison being the 12th different Sun Belt program to contribute to the tally over that span.
