NEW ORLEANS – Following an impressive week at both ends of the court, Arkansas State senior guard Caleb Fields has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The Lewisburg, Tenn., native averaged 27.0 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two games for the Red Wolves. Fields recorded career highs in points (35), assists (10) and steals (6) to lead Arkansas State to an 85-82 home win over Texas State while becoming the first NCAA Division I player to produce those statistical benchmarks in a single game since 2010. He concluded the week with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists against Louisiana.
Overall, Fields shot 14-for-27 (.519) from the floor and 25-for-32 (.781) at the free throw line in the two contests. In more than 130 collegiate games played, his nine field goals made, 16 free throw conversions and 20 free throw attempts against Texas State were personal bests, as were his seven boards against Louisiana.
Fields becomes the second Arkansas State player to garner the Sun Belt’s top weekly honor this season after junior guard Freddy Hicks received the accolade Nov. 21.
