WEEKLY NOTES
NEW ORLEANS – The sixth week of Sun Belt volleyball action will feature 12 divisional matches and highlight key contests in the East and West Divisions. Eight teams enter the week on active win streaks as teams look to finalize seeding for the tournament later this month. All 14 matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- SEEDING SERIES – Six of the seven series in week five are within the division. In the East Division, App State will travel to Georgia State as the two teams are currently second and third in the east. In the West Division, Texas State will host Southern Miss for a pair of matches as the two teams are currently third and fourth.
- WINNING STREAKS – Eight teams in the league enter week six of action with active winning streaks. South Alabama currently has an eight game win streak and is 8-2 in its last 10 matches. Georgia State has won its last two weekends with a four game win streak as the Panthers are 7-3 in their last ten matches. Both Georgia Southern and Arkansas State bring three game win streaks into the weekend as the Eagles are 9-1 in their last ten. The Red Wolves are 8-2 in their last ten matches. Both Texas State and App State won both matches in week five to bring a two game winning tilt into the weekend. Southern Miss and Coastal Carolina each won the weekend finale to have a one game win streak.
- TOP 100– The Sun Belt is currently ranked as the sixth best league in the country, with four teams mentioned in the top 100. Georgia Southern leads the way at No. 33 nationally, followed by App State at No. 64. James Madison moved up to No. 68 with Arkansas State moving inside the top 100 at No. 93.
- TEAM RANKINGS – Georgia Southern ranks 11th in the nation in digs per set, as the Eagles average 17.60. Georgia Southern also ranks 15th in kills per set at 13.96. Arkansas State ranks sixth nationally in opponent hitting percentage as the Red Wolves are limiting the opposition to a 0.141. James Madison ranks 34th nationally in total blocks at 205 as Arkansas State ranks 38th with 204.
- INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES – On the national stage, the Sun Belt features four athletes that rank in the top ten nationally in various statistical categories. Jalyn Stout continues to add to her total with 13 triple doubles on the season, which leads the nation. As a freshman last year, Stout set a new NCAA Record for triple doubles in a season at 14. Georgia Southern’s Ashlyn Lovett also remains in the top five in digs per set at number four with 5.40. Tori Hester from Troy ranks eighth in kills per set at 4.77 and is seventh in points per set at 5.50.
