Texas State (11-4-5) went on the attack early, building a 2-0 advantage inside the first 10 minutes of the match. In the fourth minute, Lily Erb found herself with a one-on-one matchup at the top left of the goal box before making a move to her right and bending a shot over the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the net for the first goal.
In the 10th minute, Zoe Junior took an advance from the Bobcats’ back line inside the Chanticleers’ ( side of midfield, made a quick turn, and dropped off a pass for Mady Soumare. She took multiple dribbles to her right before touching an easy pass to her left to a wide-open Mya Ulloa who slipped a shot past the goalkeeper to extend the lead to 2-0.
Ulloa also scored the first and game-winning goal in the Bobcats’ 2-0 quarterfinal victory over App State.
The Bobcats continued their offensive aggression in the second half when Victoria Meza worked for a loose ball in the goal box before poking it into the back of the net for their third goal in the 50th minute. Just 15 minutes later, Sydney Bassa was fouled by the goalkeeper inside the goal box to set up a penalty kick. Kaylie Smith – the 2024 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year – successfully executed the free kick to push the advantage to 4-0.
The Bobcats will play in their second Sun Belt Conference title match in program history and their first since 2018.
