NEW ORLEANS — Making its fifth-straight bowl appearance, Coastal Carolina fell to UTSA, 44-15, in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
The Chanticleers—who were part of the Sun Belt’s non-autonomy leading bowl contingent for the third-straight season—dropped to 2-3 in five all-time bowl appearances.
A pair of fourth-quarter touchdown connections from redshirt freshman quarterback Tad Hudson to sophomore wide receiver Bryson Graves and graduate student wideout Senika McKie highlighted the Coastal Carolina performance.
Hudson hit Graves on a 50-yard touchdown strike—as part of a team-high 53-yard receiving day—before capping an eight-play, 75-yard drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass to McKie. Hudson also found redshirt sophomore tight end Brooks Johnson on the ensuing two-point conversion.
In his first collegiate start, Hudson completed 17-of-26 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 15 yards. Redshirt senior running back Braydon Bennett led all Chanticleers with 82 all-purpose yards and 54 rushing yards.
Defensively, graduate student defensive back Juan Powell paced the Chanticleers with nine tackles, while redshirt senior linebacker Shane Bruce added seven takedowns and an interception.
With the loss, Coastal Carolina concludes the season 6-7.
