NEW ORLEANS — Making its seventh-straight bowl appearance, Sun Belt West Division champion Louisiana fell to TCU, 34-3, in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl.
The Ragin’ Cajuns—who were part of the Sun Belt’s non-autonomy leading bowl contingent for the third-straight season—dropped to an official record of 5-5 in 12 all-time bowl appearances.
Louisiana used a seven-play, 38-yard opening drive to set up a 54-yard field goal attempt for redshirt senior kicker Kenneth Almendares. The ball caromed off the right upright for the Lou Groza Award winner’s third miss of the season.
The first career interception by redshirt junior defensive lineman Jordan Lawson in the closing minute of the third quarter set up a nine-play, 24-yard scoring drive, as Almendares converted a 24-yard field goal to get the Ragin’ Cajuns on the board.
Louisiana was held to 209 yards of total offense—with running backs redshirt sophomore Zylan Perry (55 yards) and redshirt freshman Tylon Citizen combining for 98 of those yards. Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year redshirt senior quarterback Ben Wooldridge returned from injury and threw for 61 yards, with redshirt senior wideout Dalen Cambre being the Ragin Cajuns top target with three catches for 24 yards.
Defensively, Lawson led the way with six tackles and a tackle for loss to go along with his interception. Redshirt senior defensive back Tyrone Lewis and senior defensive back Keyon Martin also registered six-tackle outings in defeat.
With the loss, Louisiana concludes the season 10-4—the fourth 10-win season in program history. The Ragin’ Cajuns were the second Sun Belt team to square off against an autonomy five foe in Bowl Season, after 2023 Sun Belt champion Troy dropped a 17-10 game to Duke in last year’s 76 Birmingham Bowl.
