James Madison's McDaniel Garners Sun Belt Women's Basketball Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – James Madison’s Peyton McDaniel helped lead the Duke’s to a 77-72 win over Florida at the St. Pete Showcase to earn Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

McDaniel averaged 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game at the St. Pete Showcase over Thanksgiving weekend. The redshirt junior opened the tournament with a double-double, netting 22 points and a career-high 15 rebounds versus Northern Arizona. Against the Florida, the redshirt junior’s six triples helped her finish with 20 points, while she secured five steals on the defensive end. McDaniel was named to the St. Pete Showcase All-Tournament Team for her performance.

McDaniel was named the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the year and is currently third in the league in scoring averaging 15.4 points per game, is fourth in rebounding with 8.6 and second in steals with an average of 2.9 per game.
