MEMPHIS - The Arkansas State men's basketball team scored its biggest upset in program history, defeating 16th-ranked Memphis, 85-72, on the road in non-conference play Sunday afternoon at FedEx Forum.
The Red Wolves (7-3) scored the Sun Belt Conference's first win over a ranked opponent since James Madison's upset over then-No. 23 Wisconsin in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The last Sun Belt program to defeat a ranked opponent on the road was also James Madison over fourth-ranked Michigan State, 79-76, in overtime on Nov. 6, 2023.
Junior guard Joseph Pinion led Arkansas State with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-11 beyond the 3-point arc, while adding eight rebounds and three blocks. Senior forward Dyondre Dominguez shot 5-of-7 overall and 3-of-3 from deep for 19 points with six rebounds in just 17 minutes off the bench.
Senior guard Taryn Todd added 17 points and four assists, while redshirt senior forward Kobe Julien also reached double-figures with 12 points, eight rebounds and three helpers.
The Red Wolves made 12 3-pointers, owned a 44-40 rebounding advantage, and forced the Tigers (7-2) into 20 turnovers.
