App State’s Houston and James Madison’s Humphrey Claim Sun Belt Softball Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – App State’s Kayt Houston and James Madison’s Alissa Humphrey claimed Sun Belt softball weekly honors after propelling their teams to successful weekends.

Kayt Houston had a historic weekend at the Winthrop Eagle Classic, tallying 12 hits, four home runs and 11 RBI throughout the five-game set in her hometown. On Friday, Houston led off the first game of the weekend with a home run before blasting a three-run homer in the fifth inning for a multi-homer game. In game two, Houston scorched two more homers and four more RBI to cap off a six hit, four homer, nine RBI day on Friday. Houston stayed hot on day two against both Winthrop and Binghamton, cracking four more hits in six at-bats, including her third double of the weekend. Finally, Houston wrapped up her incredible five-game stretch with two more doubles and two more RBI against Mount St. Mary's in a 15-0 win. Houston was the catalyst on offense in App State's 4-1 weekend as she hit to a .667/.700/1.556 slash line in the five games. She reached base 14 times while also scoring eight runs.

Alissa Humphrey, James Madison

In James Madison’s 4-0 weekend, Alissa Humphrey made two appearances, allowing zero runs in 12 innings of work, walking one batter and striking out 14. The senior pitcher only allowed seven hits in those 12 innings, and allowed opponents to hit only .167. Humphrey threw a complete game in the 7-0 win over George Mason, striking out eight batters and only allowing five hits. In her first appearance of the weekend, the Micanopy, Fla., native, threw five scoreless innings of relief vs. Lehigh, allowing only two hits and striking out six.
