NEW ORLEANS – After featured performances in conference series-clinching wins, Louisiana’s Chase Morgan and Georgia State’s Brennan Hudson claimed the Sun Belt weekly awards, presented by BankPlus. 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Chase Morgan, Louisiana
(Fr., LHP – Cypress, Texas)   
 
Ragin’ Cajuns freshman left-handed pitcher Chase Morgan conceded just one hit, while striking out a career-high 11 batters, in 8.0 innings of work in a 1-0 series-clinching victory over Marshall. The Cypress, Texas, native combined with JT Etheridge for the first one-hit shutout for Louisiana since March 29, 2021. Morgan’s performance—in which he held Thundering Herd batters to a .040 batting average—helped lower his ERA to 1.90 on the season, a mark that paces all NCAA Division I freshmen. 

Baseball Player of the Week
Brennan Hudson, Georgia State
(So., 1B/C – Cumming, Ga.)     
 
Panthers sophomore first baseman and catcher Brennan Hudson hit .571 (8-for-14) and slugged 1.214 to propel Georgia State to a 3-1 week and a series victory over Southern Miss. The Cumming, Ga., product drew five walks and compiled three home runs, six RBI and nine runs scored on the week. Hudson contributed to a pair of run-rule victories over the Golden Eagles, including a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Panthers series-clinching win.
