NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern’s JC French IV, Southern Miss’ Josh Moten and Georgia Southern’s Tripp Bryant carded career-best performances en route to Sun Belt football weekly accolades.
Football Offensive Player of the Week
JC French IV, Georgia Southern
(RS Jr., QB – Roswell, Ga.)
Eagles redshirt junior quarterback JC French IV accounted for both Georgia Southern touchdowns in a 25-23 road rivalry win over App State. The Roswell, Ga., native threw for a career-high 352 yards, completing 25-of-37 passes and tossing a touchdown pass for the 12th-straight game. French IV rushed for 18 yards and a second score to amass 370 yards of total offense, also a career high. The performance was French IV’s third 300-yard passing game, his second this season and his first on the road.
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Josh Moten, Southern Miss
(RS Sr., DB – Waldorf, Md.)
Golden Eagles redshirt senior defensive back Josh Moten collected three interceptions in a 27-21 victory over Arkansas State—a game in which Southern Miss registered six total takeaways. The Waldorf, Md., native also added six tackles and a pass breakup. Moten’s three interceptions were the most by a Golden Eagle since Etric Pruitt hauled in three against Army in 2002. Each of his three picks halted Arkansas State drives deep in Southern Miss territory.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Tripp Bryant, Georgia Southern
(Fr., K – Lexington, S.C.)
Eagles freshman kicker Tripp Bryant proved to be the difference in a 25-23 road rivalry victory over App State. The walk-on from Lexington, S.C., was unfazed by the Kidd Brewer Stadium crowd, converting 4-of-5 field goals on attempts of 21, 26, 23 and 24 yards. Bryant’s four field goals were a career high and were the most-ever by an Eagle against App State. His 13 points scored also established a new career best.
