James Madison's Barnett, Arkansas State's Hendricks & Arkansas State's Van Andel Reap Sun Belt Football Weekly Awards

NEW ORLEANS – James Madison’s Alonza Barnett III, Arkansas State’s Demarcus Hendricks & Arkansas State’s Clune Van Andel reaped Sun Belt football weekly awards after victories that kept their teams in the Credit Union 1 Sun Belt Football Championship Game presented by Visit Pensacola hunt. 
 
Football Offensive Player of the Week
Alonza Barnett III, James Madison 
(RS Jr., QB – Whitsett, N.C.)
 
Dukes redshirt junior quarterback Alonza Barnett III accounted for 362 yards and five touchdowns to lead James Madison to a dominant 52-20 win over Texas State in front of a national television audience on ESPN2 Tuesday night. The Whitsett, N.C., native accumulated 350-or-more yards and five-or-more touchdowns for the second-straight game, doing so in just three quarters of work. Barnett completed 12-of-18 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for a game-high 98 yards and a score. 
 
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Demarcus Hendricks, Arkansas State 
(RS Sr., DL – San Antonio, Texas)
 
Red Wolves redshirt senior defensive lineman Demarcus Hendricks tied career highs with seven tackles and two sacks in a 23-10 victory over Troy. The San Antonio, Texas, product also added his first pass breakup of the season and was credited with a quarterback hurry. Hendricks’ two sacks led an Arkansas State defensive unit that totaled nine on the night—tied for the most by an FBS team this season. The Red Wolves limited Troy to 187 total yards, the fewest conceded by Arkansas State to a Sun Belt opponent since 2006 (FIU, 186). 
 
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Clune Van Andel, Arkansas State 
(Jr., K – Grand Rapids, Mich.)
 
Red Wolves junior kicker Clune Van Andel repeated as the Sun Belt Football Special Teams Player of the Week after scoring 11 points in Arkansas State’s 23-10 win over Troy. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native converted a career-long 53-yard field goal to go along with makes of 30 and 31 yards. Van Andel was also 2-for-2 on point-after attempts, extending his consecutive extra point streak to 56-staight. His career-long 53-yard field goal was his third kick of 50-or-more yards on the season.
