NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern’s Reagan Barth and Kirsten Barrett and Texas State’s Alyssa Clark each turned in impressive performances to lead in various statistics across the league. They have been named Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Players of the Week.
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Reagan Barth, Georgia Southern
(Jr., OH, Lenexa, Kan.)
Georgia Southern’s Reagan Barth averaged 4.0 kills, 3.57 digs and 0.86 blocks per set as the Eagles swept Coastal Carolina for the first time in program history this week, moving back into second place in the Sun Belt East Division standings. Barth hit .282 with 15 kills and 15 digs, both of which led the squad, in Friday's 3-1 win over the Chanticleers. She delivered another double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs in Saturday's sweep of Coastal. Barth has now registered double digit kills in all 12 Sun Belt matches this season and led the Eagles in points on the week with 31.5.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Alyssa Clark, Texas State
(RS Jr., L, Round Rock, Texas)
Texas State’s Alyssa Clark led the Bobcats in a 2-0 weekend against Southern Miss with 41 digs in seven sets. Clark’s 5.86 digs per set was the most of any player in the league this weekend. She was a key part in the Bobcats limiting Southern Miss to just a .157 attack percentage. Clark recorded 25 digs in the Bobcats 4-setter with Southern Miss, one of the best marks for a four-setter all weekend. As a team, Texas State was one of the best in the league with 17.14 digs per set. Clark also contributed with nine assists, an ace and a kill this weekend.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Kirsten Barrett, Georgia Southern
(Sr., S, Cleveland, Ohio)
Georgia Southern’s Kirsten Barrett tallied 66 assists and 24 digs in the Eagles’ pair of wins over Coastal Carolina on the week, moving into second place in the Sun Belt East Division standings and marking the first time the Eagles have swept the Chanticleers in program history. Barrett delivered 39 assists and 14 digs in Friday's 3-1 win over Coastal. She added 27 assists and 10 digs in Saturday's sweep of the Chants, stretching her streak of double-doubles to four and boosting her total amount of double-doubles this season to 11. The senior from Cleveland, Ohio, directed the Eagles to a stellar .259 hitting percentage on the week.
