James Madison's Barnes Earns Sun Belt Women's Basketball Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – James Madison’s Ashanti Barnes earned Sun Belt women’s basketball player of the week after averaging 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds over the last week.

Barnes had a outstanding week for the Dukes, averaging 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game to help lead James Madison to a 19-4 record with a perfect 11-0 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. Barnes started the week with a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds while dishing out a career-high six assists in a 77-60 win at Georgia Southern on Wednesday. On Saturday, the senior registered 24 points shooting .647 from the field and grabbing five rebounds in the teams 85-62 win at Old Dominion.
 
Barnes performance marked her third 20-plus point effort of the season and the third in Sun Belt Conference play. The senior is currently sixth in the league in rebounding at 8.0 rpg against conference opponents.
