NEW ORLEANS – Following conference series victories for their respective teams to get to .500 in conference play, Georgia Southern’s Jacob Phillips and Louisiana’s Conor Higgs earned the Sun Belt baseball weekly accolades, presented by BankPlus.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jacob Phillips, Georgia Southern

Eagles senior left-handed pitcher Jacob Phillips threw 8.2 innings, conceding just one earned run on four hits in a 4-0 week for Georgia Southern. The Ocala, Fla., product struck out nine over two appearances en route to his first two wins of the season in a 5-4 mid-week victory over Kennesaw State and a 5-1 victory over App State to secure a weekend series sweep. Phillips held opponents to a .143 batting average on the week and registered a career-high six strikeouts over 4.2 innings pitched in relief on Sunday.

Conor Higgs, Louisiana
(RS Sr., OF – Texas City, Texas)
Ragin’ Cajuns redshirt senior outfielder Conor Higgs hit .455 (5-for-11) and slugged 1.273 as Louisiana posted a weekend series win over South Alabama. The Texas City, Texas, native hit three home runs and accounted for six runs scored and six RBI on the week, while drawing three walks and stealing two bases. After a pair of bombs in Louisiana’s series-clinching 9-3 win over South Alabama on Sunday, Higgs is 1-of-4 Sun Belt student-athletes with a league-leading nine home runs on the season.
