Old Dominion, Troy Both Advance in WNIT

NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion and Troy win their opening games in the WNIT and continue with postseason play.

Old Dominion took down Navy on Saturday night 63-42. An 18 point performance by En’Dya Buford was the driving force for the Monarchs in their first round victory.

The Monarchs shot 43.1 percent from the field and outscored Navy 28-12 in the paint, while out rebounding them 47-41.

The win propels the Monarchs into the second round of the WNIT where they will face Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday.

After earning a bye into the second round of the WNIT, Troy had a dominant 85-72 victory over Chattanoga.

The Sun Belt’s double-double leader Zay Dyer led the way with an 18-point, 10 rebound double-double. Four other Trojans joined Dyer in double figures in Fortuna Ngnawo (17), Ashley Baez (13), Brianna Jackson (11) and Shaulana Wagner (11). Wagner also dished out a game leading eight assists in the matchup.

Troy is now 4-3 all-time in the WNIT with three wins coming from last season’s Fab Four run.

Troy will face North Texas in the Super 16 rounf of the tournament with the date and time yet to be announced.
