GAME 3 – No. 6 seed Old Dominion def. No. 3 seed Troy, 4-2
A gutty performance from junior left-handed pitcher Dylan Brown propelled Old Dominion to a 4-2 victory over Troy in the opening game of the double-elimination portion of the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship presented by Troy University.
Brown threw 6.2 innings, striking out nine and conceding just four hits, to earn the win and improve to 5-2 on the season. Fellow junior left-handed pitcher Ben Moore did not allow a man to reach base over the final 2.1 innings to earn the save.
The Monarchs used a pair of first-inning doubles from senior shortstop Kyle Edwards and junior first baseman Zach Leite to get on the board early. Troy responded in the bottom of the third, when a single through the right side off the bat of junior catcher Brooks Bryan plated a pair to momentarily turn the tables.
Old Dominion senior outfielder Scotty Young legged out a two-out bunt single in the top of the fourth, allowing Leite to come around to score the equalizer, 2-2, following a leadoff walk.
Senior outfielder Luke Waters came to the plate in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded—via a walk and two hit by pitches—and punched a two-out, two-RBI single into left field. The Monarch base knock provided the final margin, 4-2, before Moore silenced the Trojans bats for good.
Troy will take on No. 7 seed Texas State in an elimination game at 9:00 a.m. CT on Thursday, May 22. The Trojans took 2-of-3 in the regular-season series at home. GAME 4 – No. 2 seed Southern Miss def. No. 7 seed Texas State, 9-1
Southern Miss scored early and often in a 9-1 win over Texas State to run its current winning streak to a program-record 16 games at the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship presented by Troy University.
The Golden Eagles used small ball to plate two in the bottom of the first and give junior right-handed pitcher JB Middleton all the breathing room he needed—but the bats didn’t stop there.
Southern Miss tacked on a run in the second, before redshirt sophomore outfielder Jake Cook extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run bomb to right—just his second of the season—in the bottom of the fourth. The No. 9 man in the Golden Eagles batting order, senior shortstop Ozzie Pratt, drove in two more in the ensuing frame on a single to right center to make the Southern Miss advantage 7-0.
A bases-loaded single to left field from Texas State junior designated hitter Rashawn Galloway brought home the lone Bobcat run in the top of the sixth, before Pratt responded with a second RBI single in as many innings in the bottom half of the frame to make it 8-1.
After Texas State walked the bases loaded in the eighth—on a walk and two hit by pitches—a Matthew Russo sacrifice fly to right center drove in the final Golden Eagles run.
Middleton earned the win, striking out 10 and allowing just five hits and one run over 7.0 innings pitched, to run his record to 10-1 on the year. Junior left-handed pitcher Kros Sivley retired the Bobcats in order over the final two 2.0 in relief.

Coastal Carolina scored in five-straight innings to earn an 8-1 victory over Georgia Southern and extend its current winning streak to 15 games at the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship presented by Troy University.
Georgia Southern scored first, when redshirt senior shortstop Cade Parker sent a 3-2 pitch soaring 413 feet over the wall in left center and off a passing train.
A two-RBI triple down the right field line by sophomore third baseman Walker Mitchell opened the Chanticleer scoring in a four-run third, ahead of an RBI double to left center from junior second baseman Blake Barthol and an RBI single through the left side of the infield by redshirt senior designated hitter Chad Born that made it 4-1.
Coastal Carolina added a run apiece in the fourth and fifth—despite not having an extra-base hit across the two innings—before Barthol doubled home junior catcher Caden Bodine in the sixth to extend its margin to 7-1.
Senior outfielder Wells Sykes drove in the eighth and final Chanticleer run with a single up the middle with runners on the corners in the bottom of the seventh.
Senior right-handed pitcher Riley Eikhoff conceded just one run and struck out six over 7.2 innings pitched to earn the win and improve to 6-2 on the season.

GAME 6 – No. 4 seed Marshall def. No. 5 seed Louisiana, 9-5
Multi-RBI efforts from senior outfielder Jackson Halter, sophomore first baseman AJ Havrilla and senior catcher Nolan Wilson lifted Marshall to a 9-5 win over Louisiana in Wednesday’s nightcap at the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship presented by Troy University.
Halter broke the ice for the Thundering Herd with a 347-foot leadoff bomb in the bottom half of the first and sparked a four-run third with an RBI double to center.
A leadoff double by sophomore second baseman Drew Markle and a single by junior designated hitter Luke Yuhasz gave the Ragin’ Cajuns their first significant scoring threat in the top of the sixth. Louisiana converted, with Markle coming around to score on a sacrifice fly by junior outfielder Caleb Stelly and Yuhasz touching home on a single to center by senior outfielder Conor Higgs. A two-RBI single up the middle by Havrilla in the bottom half of the frame reextended the Thundering Herd advantage to five runs, 7-2.
Wilson’s two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the seventh pushed the Marshall lead to 9-2, before Louisiana narrowed it to the final 9-5 margin with a three-run top of the eighth.
Junior left-handed pitcher Bryce Blevins earned the win to improve to 6-5 on the year, after tossing 5.1 innings and conceding just two earned runs. Senior right-handed pitcher Nicholas Weyrich picked up the six-pitch, one-out save, after entering with two-on and two-out in the top of the ninth.
