NEW ORLEANS — Just a year removed from its conference-leading fourth Sun Belt Football Championship Game appearance, App State will look to rebound from the first losing season of its Sun Belt era when it opens the 2025 campaign on Friday, August 29, against in-state foe Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium. The contest will kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
The Mountaineers are 3-0 all-time against the 49ers, with multi-score victories in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
App State’s non-conference slate also features home matchups with Lindenwood (Sept. 6) and Oregon State (Oct. 4) and a road test at Boise State (Sept. 27). In addition to annual matchups with their East Division rivals, the Mountaineers will visit Southern Miss (Sept. 13) and host Arkansas State (Nov. 29) from the Sun Belt West Division.
The Mountaineers were picked third in the Sun Belt East Division in last month’s
2025 Sun Belt Conference Football Preseason Coaches Poll.
First-year head coach Dowell Loggains will lead a rebuilt App State roster
without a 2024 All-Sun Belt returner and
with just one 2025 Preseason All-Sun Belt honoree.
App State went 5-6 in 2024, its first losing season since joining the Sun Belt and the FBS in 2014.
The Mountaineers have appeared in eight bowls over 10 postseason-eligible seasons at the FBS level, claiming seven bowl championships.
