NEW ORLEANS — After matching its winningest season at the FBS level with eight wins in 2024—including its second-straight Bowl Season appearance and bowl championship, Texas State will kick off its 2025 campaign on Saturday, August 30, when it hosts Eastern Michigan at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT on ESPN+. 
 
Eastern Michigan won the lone prior meeting between the two programs, 59-21, in Ypsilanti, Mich., in 2021. 
 
Texas State’s non-conference slate also features road matchups against in-state rival UTSA (Sept. 6) and Arizona State (Sept. 13) and a home date with Nicholls (Sept. 20). Alongside annual meetings with their West Division brethren, the Bobcats will visit Marshall (Oct. 18) and host Sun Belt East Division favorite James Madison (Oct. 28) in cross-divisional play. 
 
The Bobcats were picked to finish second in the Sun Belt West Division, while claiming 6-of-14 first-place votes in last month’s 2025 Sun Belt Conference Football Preseason Coaches Poll. 
 
In its final Sun Belt campaign, third-year head coach GJ Kinne will lead a retooled Texas State roster without a 2024 All-Sun Belt returner or a 2025 Preseason All-Sun Belt pick. 
 
The Bobcats are coming off a second-straight 8-5 season in 2024, tying their FBS program record. Texas State was part of the Sun Belt’s eight-team Bowl Season contingent that paced the non-autonomy conferences for the third-straight year, earning a second-straight SERVPRO First Responder Bowl victory, 30-28, over North Texas. 
 
Kinne is the first Texas State coach since Jim Wacker in 1981 and 1982 to post back-to-back seasons with eight-or-more wins. Wacker led the Bobcats to back-to-back NCAA Division II national championships in 1981 and 1982.
