NEW ORLEANS – After career days, Old Dominion’s Trequan Jones, Troy’s Luke Hodge and Old Dominion’s Tre’ Brown III claimed the Sun Belt football weekly accolades.
Football Offensive Player of the Week
Trequan Jones, Old Dominion
(Jr., RB – Bartow, Fla.)
Monarchs junior running back Trequan Jones rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns on five carries in Old Dominion’s 54-6 win over North Carolina Central. On his first career FBS carry, the Bartow, Fla., native scampered 39 yards for his first career touchdown. Then—on the first play of the third quarter—Jones posted a program record 93-yard touchdown run—the second-longest FBS play from scrimmage this season. Jones added a 14-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run for his third score of the game.
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Luke Hodge, Troy
(So., LB – Oneonta, Ala.)
Troy sophomore linebacker Luke Hodge was involved in the two momentum-shifting plays for Troy in a 27-16 loss at No. 8/8 Clemson. The Oneonta, Ala., product forced a fumble on a 4th-and-2 attempt deep in Trojan territory to set up a Troy field goal. Hodge also deflected a pass at the line of scrimmage that was intercepted and returned four yards for a pick six to give the Trojans a 16-0 lead. He finished with a career-high four tackles, as Troy held the Tigers to just 316 yards of total offense—the fewest by a non-autonomy opponent since 2010 (South Florida, 296 yards) and the fewest by a non-autonomy foe at home since 2001 (UCF, 292 yards).
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Tre’ Brown III, Old Dominion
(RS So., WR – Savannah, Ga.)
Monarchs redshirt sophomore wide receiver Tre’ Brown III had a hand in a pair of key special teams plays in Old Dominion’s 54-6 victory over North Carolina Central. The Savannah, Ga., native tackled the Eagles punter in the end zone for a safety, Old Dominion’s first since its 2023 regular-season finale. Brown later blocked a punt—the Monarch’s 16th since 2021—to set up a Old Dominion touchdown. He finished the game with a 15-yard tackle for loss and a blocked punt to go along with four catches for 74 yards on offense.
