NEW ORLEANS – Marshall graduate guard Jalen Speer has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after recording a pair of 20-point scoring performances in two conference victories for the Thundering Herd.

Speer earns the Sun Belt’s top weekly honor for the second time in his career after also receiving it last season on Jan. 28, 2025. He joins former Herd players Taevion Kinsey (three times) and Nate Martin (two times) to receive the recognition multiple times.

Jalen Speer averaged 23.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 16-for-31 (.516) from the field and 10-for-15 (.667) from 3-point range.

Speer got the week started with 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists while making six 3-pointers in an 84-80 home win over Georgia State on New Year’s Eve. He followed up that performance on Jan. 3 with a 21-point, seven-assist effort in an 88-81 home victory over App State.
