Georgia State's Brown, Georgia State's Esqillion & Louisiana's Sterner Claim Sun Belt Football Weekly Accolades

NEW ORLEANS – Record-setting and personal-best performances propelled Georgia State’s Cameran Brown, Georgia State’s Xavier Esqillion and Louisiana’s Tony Sterner to the Sun Belt football weekly accolades following the first full weekend of conference play. 
 
Football Offensive Player of the Week
Cameran Brown, Georgia State
(5th Yr., QB – Warner Robins, Ga.) 
 
Panthers fifth-year quarterback Cameran Brown threw for a Georgia State single-game program record six touchdowns in a 42-10 victory over Old Dominion, snapping a nine-game losing streak to Sun Belt opposition. The Warner Robins, Ga., native completed 14-of-20 passes for a career-high 284 yards. His six touchdown passes are tied for the second-most in Sun Belt and NCAA history. Brown also connected with sophomore wideout Derrick Avery Jr. for a career-long 80-yard touchdown pass. 
 
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Xavier Esqillion, Georgia State 
(Sr., LB – Charlotte, N.C.)
 
Panthers senior linebacker Xavier Esqillion carded a Georgia State single-game program record three sacks in a 42-10 victory over Old Dominion, snapping a nine-game losing streak against Sun Belt foes. The Charlotte, N.C., product also added five tackles, three tackles for loss and two forced fumbles on the day. Esqillion led the Panthers to a single-game program record seven team sacks and helped the defensive unit hold the Monarchs to just 146 yards of total offense—the fewest yards allowed in Georgia State program history. 
 
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Tony Sterner, Louisiana 
(RS Sr., K – Kingwood, Texas)
 
Ragin’ Cajuns redshirt senior kicker Tony Sterner knocked a 37-yard game-winner through the uprights as time expired in a 23-20 win over Arkansas State. The Kingwood, Texas, native tied a career-high with three field goals—all in the second half. Sterner’s 38-yarder tied the game at 10-10 on the opening drive of the second half and a 25-yarder also knotted the game up at 20-20 with 5:38 to play. He tacked on two extra points to extend his consecutive made streak to 55, while also improving to 7-for-7 on field goal attempts this season.
