NEW ORLEANS – Coastal Carolina junior shortstop Brie Normandin and Texas State junior left-handed pitcher Madison Azua claimed the Sun Belt Conference’s second softball weekly awards of the 2026 season.
 
Normandin earns her first Player of the Week honor, while Azua secured Pitcher of the Week recognition for the fourth time in her career and first since April 8, 2025.

Player of the Week
Brie Normandin, Coastal Carolina
[Jr. | SS | San Clemente, Calif.]
 
Normandin recorded 12 hits and posted a .571 batting average with six RBIs in a successful week for the Chanticleers. The junior came up clutch in Coastal’s 6-2 upset win at No. 15 Arizona, driving in three runs. She went 3-for-4 at the plate in the Chants’ 14-13 win over Drake with two RBI singles and continued to produce against some of the strongest pitching in the nation, going 2-for-2 in game two versus Arizona. Defensively, the shortstop recorded 20 assists and 10 putouts, securing key outs in crucial moments. She capped off the week with a 2-for-2 performance against Utah Valley, adding an RBI single. Overall, Normandin tallied four multi-hit games and two multi-RBI games over the course of the week.

Pitcher of the Week
Madison Azua, Texas State
[Jr. | LHP | Round Rock, Texas]

Azua provided standout performances in the circle during the Bobcats’ States Up Invitational, as she pitched 15 innings, earned two wins, including one against 18th-ranked Clemson on Feb. 12. She struck out seven and scatted seven hits and two walks in a complete-game shutout against Clemson. Azua also recorded a win against BYU on Feb. 13 where she also tossed a complete game and allowed a pair of runs in the Bobcats’ 10-2 victory. The junior had 14 strikeouts in 15.1 innings of work, maintaining one of the best strikeouts per seven innings rates in the conference. Azua only allowed six runs in her three appearances, with four of them coming against No. 11 Arkansas.
