Sun Belt Women's Basketball Kicks Off Final Month of the Regular Season

NEW ORLEANS - February marks the final month of the Sun Belt women's basketball regular season with teams looking to finish strong heading into Pensacola.

GAME OF THE WEEK
The Sun Belt women’s basketball game of the week features two teams coming off wins in the league with Georgia Southern (16-5, 9-2) heading to Texas State (10-11, 6-5) on Wednesday in their only meeting of the regular season. Georgia Southern is tied for second in the Sun Belt standings, just a game behind league leader Arkansas State. Georgia Southern is led by 2x player of the week honoree Kishyah Anderson, who is coming off a season best 31-point performance versus Southern Miss. Texas State sits in sixth place in the league standings, just two games behind James Madison. The Bobcats are led by Saniya Burks who averages 14.0 points per game and Kyra Anderson who averages 12.6 points per game and a team best 8.4 rebounds.

LEAGUE LEADERS
Troy has officially made its way back to the top of the stat column in rebounds with a 50.50 per game average. The Trojan’s Zay Dyer and Fortuna Ngnawo lead the team in boards with 12.1 and 10.0, respectively. Dyer’s 12.1 ranks fourth nationally while Ngnawo’s 10.0 ranks 22nd. The pair also average double digit scoring figures, making them the only teammates in the country to average a double-double. Troy also leads the Sun Belt in scoring (84.5 ppg) and assists (15.68). Troy will have an upper hand over the next few weeks with holds four of its next five games in Trojan Arena where there are 8-1 on the year. 

RED WOLVES ON A RUN
Arkansas State holds the longest win streak in the conference (5) and sit at the top of the league standings with a 10-1 record. Their only loss came at the hands of Troy, who they will meet again on Feb. 24th in Jonesboro. Zyion Shannon and Crislyn Rose are the Red Wolves scoring leaders averaging 13.3 and 12.5 points per game, respectively. With just seven games left in Sun Belt league play, the defending tournament champions are in position to make another run in the Sun Belt tournament.

STAYING ON TRACK
After a two-game skid, James Madison (16-8, 8-4) has climbed its way into fifth place in the league standings. Led by the league’s leading scorer, Peyton McDaniel (18.3 ppg), the Dukes defeated both Louisiana and South Alabama by 20+ on their home court. The Dukes were voted the leagues preseason favorites but have struggled on the road with all four of their conference losses being away from Harrisonburg. James Madison will kick off a four-game road trip tonight in Hattiesburg, against a gritty Southern Miss team that is capable of pulling off an upset.

Eight Sun Belt women’s basketball players have scored 30+ points in a game this season. Marshall’s Timaya Lewis-Eutsey has recorded four which is the most of any player in the league, with all four coming in league action. Jakayla Johnson of Southern Miss has had two while Kishyah Anderson (Georgia Southern), Saniya Burks (Texas State), Kayla Cleaveland (Georgia Southern), J’Mani Ingram (ULM), Emani Jenkins (Troy) and Amijah Price have all recorded one. 

IN THE NET
Five Sun Belt teams rank in the top 100 of the NET. James Madison has the best NET at 54, followed by Troy (64), Georgia Southern (75), Arkansas State (84) and Marshall (95).

PARTY IN PENSACOLA
The 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Championship presented by Air Force Reserve will be held March 3-9, 2026 at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla., The championship game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 on Monday, March 9. The 2026 tournament will mark the sixth consecutive season the Sun Belt hosts the event in Pensacola, which will remain at the venue through the 2029-30 campaign. A different program has been crowned champion in each of the first five years in Pensacola: Arkansas State (2025), Marshall (2024), James Madison (2023), UTA (2022) and Troy (2021).
