Coastal Carolina is the defending tournament champion and reigning national runner-up, having dethroned Southern Miss, 7-5, in the winner-take-all Sun Belt championship game last season. The win snapped the Golden Eagles’ 18-game winning streak and extended the Chanticleers own winning streak to 18 games. Coastal Carolina would go on to win eight-straight NCAA tournament games to extend that streak to 26-straight wins, before falling to LSU in the championship series of the 2025 College World Series.

Both the Golden Eagles and Chanticleers are ranked in all five national polls entering the postseason.

Historically a multi-bid conference, the Sun Belt has sent multiple teams to the postseason in 30-of-36 campaigns since 1989. The Sun Belt’s first-ever appearance in the College World Series championship series in 2025 came on the heels of a four-season span in which it sent 14 teams to NCAA Baseball Regionals, 10 to NCAA Baseball Regional finals and two to NCAA Baseball Super Regionals. That grouping included four regional hosts and national seeds—No. 13 Coastal Carolina (2025), No. 16 Southern Miss (2025), No. 10 Coastal Carolina (2023) and No. 16 Georgia Southern (2022).

The Sun Belt has sent four teams to NCAA Baseball Regionals in three of the past four seasons and hosted two NCAA Baseball Regionals for the first time in conference history in 2025.
